The Power of Community Inclusion for Individuals with IDD in North Carolina

Inclusion Builds Stronger Communities

At North Carolina Life of Rehabilitation (NCLR), we believe that inclusion is not just a program — it is a principle.
When individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are fully included in community life, everyone benefits. Inclusion creates empathy, strengthens relationships, and builds more compassionate neighborhoods across North Carolina.

Through meaningful activities, shared experiences, and mutual respect, our clients don’t just participate in the community — they become an integral part of it.

Opportunities for Connection and Growth

NCLR’s Community Networking Program helps individuals engage in local volunteer work, paid employment, and cultural or recreational activities.
Each activity promotes social skills, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging. Whether it’s gardening, art, or volunteering, inclusion encourages people to discover their strengths and contribute in valuable ways.

Our goal is to break barriers that isolate individuals and create pathways to confidence, friendship, and purpose.

Why Inclusion Matters

Inclusion is about recognizing that every person, regardless of ability, has something to offer.
When communities open their doors, they create opportunities for learning and understanding that extend far beyond a single program. Families, employers, and neighbors all grow stronger when they embrace diversity and connection.

Building a More Inclusive North Carolina

At NCLR, we turn inclusion into action — by supporting individuals with IDD to live, learn, and work alongside others in their communities.
Together, we are shaping a state where everyone belongs, and where every person has the chance to live without limits.
